Pillow Talk is a concept from COLLECTIBLE In-Depth. This series of articles  instigates  design encounters in a playful setting. Elis Monsport: Your work is very diverse. Would you be able to tell which of these industries express you, what you enjoy outside of the art world and why?

Marius Boekhorst:  My work spans diverse realms of art, design, fashion, and music, where each discipline and medium intertwines and mutually inspires. The interconnectedness fuels my creativity and allows for a dynamic exploration of expressive possibilities.

Elis Monsport: What experience/emotion do you most like to create through your work?

Marius Boekhorst: I find joy in pushing material boundaries and embracing experimentation in my work. I thrive on the unexpected, as mistakes or unplanned directions often lead to the start of innovative outcomes.

Elis Monsport: A film or cultural event that recently enriched you and made you think?

Marius Boekhorst: I recently rewatched the documentary 'Christo - Walking on Water.' It's always inspiring to see his passion and dedication to art. His ability to overcome obstacles and make the impossible happen is truly remarkable.

Marius Boekhorst: Why did you decide to start working with glass? 

Elis Monsport: It was actually a bit of a coincidence, but glass attracted me with its diversity, fragility and hardness at the same time. Glass is a very specific material and it is necessary to understand it well and to be able to communicate with others, because glass is a team work that cannot be done without other experienced craftsmen. So even the fact that working with glass is a bit of a production and an artist in one. That was also something that attracted me to glass.

Marius Boekhorst: Are you interested in exploring new materials for your engrave series?

Elis Monsport: Yes, I play a lot with impressions and casts in resin and also with metal, where I see interesting possibilities. I try to leave a lot of freedom in my work, so that during the production process there is always room for change, or a new unexpected element that is born there.

Marius Boekhorst: What’s a place you recently visited that inspired you?
Elis Monsport: I like my weekend wanderings through the countryside in the north of the Czech Republic, bordering Germany, which is now slowly waking up after winter. This is something that is always refreshing and inspiring to me.
