C: Why do you focus on contemporary collectible design? What does it mean for you?

 
Studio Bovti: Our work is characterized by a focus on narrative expression and an experimental approach to craftsmanship, creating a unique emotional connection to the object. It represents the fusion of artistic expression with practical functionality in everyday life. The integration of diverse craft disciplines and materials within a single project distinguishes our work from conventional industrial production. A key aspect is our active involvement as artists in the production process, fostering a deeper connection to the product.
 
C: What do you think collectible design brings compared to other more massively produced pieces?
 
SB: Collectible design differs from mass-produced goods through its highly experimental nature and the emphasis on the uniqueness of each object. Unlike industrial manufacturing, where efficiency is the primary goal, collectible design prioritizes the story and emotional depth behind each piece. This results in a creative process driven by narrative and sentiment. As a result, users develop a deeper appreciation for these exceptional pieces, which stand in stark contrast to interchangeable mass products.
 
C: What role does storytelling play in enhancing the value and appreciation of collectible design objects within a collector’s portfolio?
 
SB: Storytelling is fundamental in collectible design, as the narrative surrounding a piece strengthens the emotional bond between the object and the collector. People seek emotional connections, which these stories convey. The narrative enhances the artistic expression of the work, providing insight into the artist’s motivation and personality. This transparency about the creative process and artistic intention deepens the connection and value of the piece.
 
C: How do you navigate the balance between embracing technological advancements in your design process while preserving traditional craftsmanship?
 
SB: The balance between technology and traditional craftsmanship develops organically from the concept and narrative of each project. These elements dictate the choice of materials and, consequently, the production methods. A purely automated, efficiency-driven approach is not viable, as the personal connection to the creation process is essential and identity-defining. We remain open to all tools—from AI to traditional handcrafting—and choose the best implementation method for each specific project.
 
C: What have you been up to recently? What are the next projects/exhibitions you wish to highlight?
 
SB:  In addition to the Collectible Design, we will be presenting the expansion of our "Kinoko" series at Alcova in Milan on april. This series now consists of four unique pieces and aims to delve even deeper into the theme and world of mushrooms. Furthermore, we will be featured at an exhibition in Sydney at the end of April/beginning of May. However, we can't reveal everything just yet, and we are particularly excited about everyone who will accompany us on our journey of development!
