COLLECTIBLE In-Depth
Sold Out Design/ Untiled
March 2025
This series, COLLECTIBLE In-Depth, unveils the backstage of contemporary creation. Tackling various topics from personal designer processes to the position of collectible design on the global design market, COLLECTIBLE In-Depth offers different views to suit all tastes. Today we speak with Sold Out Design/ Untiled.
C: Why do you focus on contemporary collectible design?
Sold Out Design/ Untiled: In 2023 Sold Out Design and Untiled Gallery Berlin opened their own gallery space in Sofia, Bulgaria with the aim to promote artists working in the field of contemporary fine art and limited edition design. Sold Out Design is the first gallery in the country focusing on functional art and its manifestations, whereas Untiled Gallery Berlin seeks to engage
with art from the South East region. Within the years collectible design and functional art have emerged as separate market niches, for more thoughts in that regard follow my essay called: “Designing for the art’s sale”
C: How do you think the contemporary collectible design market is evolving?
Sold Out Design/ Untiled: Compared to the art market, this relatively young market is characterised by a more open approach, smaller number of players, and last, but not least, more direct communication. The functional aspect of the artworks definitely speaks out more openly to the viewer, whether this comes with a higher incentive to buy is yet to be seen. The market has its own dynamics, various creatives with different academic backgrounds step into the field, new galleries emerge specializing in showcasing such works whereas art fairs dedicate sections to it. Collectible design claimed its rightful place on the international art market.
C: Can you talk about the designers you present at COLLECTIBLE this year, what makes their practice/pieces unique?
Sold Out Design/ Untiled: At Collectible we will present a duo exhibition by Bulgarian artist Rosie Eisor and Belgium-based designer and craftsmen Pieter van Bruyssel founder of Grond Studio. The common denominator for both artists is that they work with natural materials such as wool, textile and raw earth. Their works are unique pieces, where contemporary craftsmanship, re-use and circularity define the realm of fine art and design. Both artists share a particular punk aesthetic, Pieter employs natural raw materials seeking a more balanced relationship between humans and nature, whereas Rosie explores the relationship between femininity, nature, and mythology.
C: What have you been up to recently? What are the next projects/exhibitions you wish to highlight?
Sold Out Design/ Untiled: Soldout Design / Untiled Gallery continues to expand its curatorial scope with an exciting lineup of exhibitions. Göksu Baysal’s solo show RISS (Feb 1–Mar 15, 2025) explores representation, material transformation, and urban decay through photography, sculpture, and installation. Martina Vacheva & Mitch Brezounek (Mar 22–May 10, 2025) bring humor and satire to painting, drawing from folklore, pop culture, and digital aesthetics. Marina Stanimirovic (May 17–June 28, 2025) recontextualizes found objects in installations exploring heritage, resilience, and everyday structures. Each exhibition fosters dialogue between contemporary practice and deeper cultural narratives, reflecting our commitment to artistic experimentation and discourse.
