COLLECTIBLE Three Questions To — Drew McGukin
(Vignette supported by Farrow & Ball)
October 2025
For COLLECTIBLE New York 2025, Farrow & Ball, the renowned British paint and wallpaper house, supported the Vignette section, bringing their distinctive palette and sensibility to the spaces imagined by our exhibitors. Their colors became more than backdrop — they shaped atmosphere, highlighted materiality, and infused each setting with depth and character.
We asked to our exhibitors three questions about their collaboration, their creative process, and the role of color in their work.
C: Which Farrow & Ball shade did you choose, and how did it shape your creative vision?
Drew McGukin : We selected Hague Blue as a color-drenched backdrop to a blue Sandra Jordan Prima Aplaca fabric selected for the star chair in our vignette. Additionally, the blue hue pulled from the midnight skies in photographic works hung in situ by Gail Albert Halaban. I might suggest the color became our unifying element.
C: What role does color play in your practice, and how did it come to life through this collaboration with Farrow & Ball?
DMc: Despite ‘Blue’ rhyming with ‘Drew’ —it’s not a go-to color in my design work. I lean green (to continue rhyming). I would call the choice a departure, playing around with a different beat. Ultimately, the choice was driven by the pieces selected and on view and came to life as a wonderfully moody and sophisticated backdrop.
C: What has been the most rewarding or impactful part of your COLLECTIBLE New York 2025 experience?
DMc: The most compelling part of the show was the people—stellar producers, vendors, and guests. My team felt rewarded to showcase our work in a different setting, and that resonated as impactful (for me) to see us show up as cohesive, dialed in, and still ’True Drew' individual from an adjacent point-of-view.
