Kristen de la Vallière: There has been a lot of focus on the negative aspects of the circumstances of the past year but we'd love to know how it has positively impacted your practice. How has the past year changed the way you view or run your design practice?

Ludivine Jalabert: I tried to focus on what was really important for me and for the vision I have of the studio, Craftmanship and Color. I launched my first collection of furniture. I have wanted to do this for such a long time, and never had the time with my interior design practice. I figured as time was an opportunity, and since it seemed crazy already, why not launch this project in the midst of a global pandemic and economic crisis, right?! 

I focused on my values, the pieces exhibited at COLLECTIBLE are all made in France by incredible craftsmen and women. And they are colorful!

KdlV: What do you think are some of the most important roles of a designer in 2021?

LJ: I think designers should try to focus on beauty to transcend the negativity all around us. And help people to dream.

Our role is also to connect to people on a deeper level, to touch them deeply with the poetry of design: with the craftsmen and women we work with, with the final users of our creations and design lovers. Or at least try! I try my best to bring this to the work of Moure Studio, by being authentic and personally involved in each step.

I see the future of design as sensitive design, very personal. And therefore probably not consensual.

KdlV: How are physical events such as COLLECTIBLE, important for your creative practice?

LJ: They are important because they create deadlines to work towards and offer a unique opportunity to meet fellow designers, to take some time to show our work.

Also, materials and shapes are to be touched by all senses. Not only just vision! This always has been my motto. COLLECTIBLE allows us to touch, turn around a piece like a sculpture, feel its proportions, watch the way the colors interact with the light and texture.

Using our bodies is the essence of experiencing design. And we’ve been kept from doing that in so many ways lately. So yes, it is also a unique opportunity to “feel”.

Moure / Studio is a Parisian interdisciplinary design studio founded by Ludivine Jalabert in 2015 and specialised in interior and furniture design. Inspired by movements such as the Bauhaus, the De Stijl movement, and the International Style, the studio creates sensitive atmospheres through exclusive elegant designs which emphasise architectural volumes and spotlight the vibrancy of colour.
