The CURATED Section, dedicated to emerging and mid-career independent designers and design studios, is a space for radical experimentation and discovery where participants are invited to explore pioneering ideas and processes in design.
This year’s Curated section presents E S C A P I S M, imagined by Rotterdam-based collector and curator Berry Dijkstra, alongside an iteration of the 2021 Curated section, TENSION!, showcased for the first time in real life with new additions.
E S C A P I S M
by Berry Dijkstra
For the CURATED section of COLLECTIBLE 2022, the selected designers pull us from our daily reality to take us on a voyage of discovery into a universe full of fresh ideas and colourful vistas. A journey brimming with effervescent concepts and enchanting objects that appeal to the imagination through both form and material. An expedition that leads us along tempestuous paths, steep descents and narrow passages to utopian visions that offer a glimpse into worlds we can only dream of.

TENSION
by Julia Haney Montañez
We are living in a changing environment with societal shifts taking place and the global community is being forced to adapt together. We are learning to overcome tensions in all meanings of the word and to focus on what is fundamental versus our individualised discomforts. Tension is a bridge leading us into an evolved future.
Tension is the way we react to creating our own art, by discovering new materials and techniques, breaking away from tradition with experimentation. Tension exists between execution and expectation. Tension is how we interact with the art of others.
TENSION! ultimately explores the paradox of creating collectible design: How the observer interacts with the works, and asks, “Can I touch it?”
The CURATED Section at the 2021 edition of COLLECTIBLE explores how this universal impact of change has influenced the work of over 20 designers from various countries.
